Santo Tirso (Portugal) 28th-30th March 2012 Interculturalism and education |
The focus of the meeting was on the connection of Interculturalism in the education system. It was not too difficult for us to speak about it as we are affected by its consequences every day. Immediately appeared that the 3 countries are various from this point of view. St. Martin is the country where the problem is really vivid and the school has to cope with the difficulties in several dimensions all the time. In Europe Italy is one of the main targets of immigration so they need to have a policy in connection with their involvement in the national educational system. Portugal is also used to be an important destination of it and they had to work out a well operating system some years ago. So they could speak about the weaknesses and strengths of their everyday practice. However the intensity of the immigration has been decreasing for a while. Hungary is still ahead of the problem. So at the moment Hungary is only among the second or the third choice of people wishing to choose a new home country for themselves. On the other hand in historical scale the country had to see a great migration of the Hungarians and they are dealing with the involvment of an ethnic minority group int he educational system. There are 3 documents in the folder of Saint Martin. There are 2 excel files. They are statistical surveys conducted into the whole of the pupils of second general (15 years). Birthplaces children - parents. Spoken languages, understood by the pupils. Spoken languages in the families. The objective is to show the cultural diversity and the multilingualism of the young people of the high school. This survey was conducted in 2012, march by the pupils of second present at Santo Tirso. The word document includes a poem written and told by our student in Santo Tirso in the evening of Art. Hungarian Contribution Here is what we have known about the topic 'Migration and school'. We do not have many migrating students in our school. However have some students belonging to an ethnic minority group of Hungary, they are the Romanies. This folder includes the short summary of their appearance in Hungary. Unfortunately for some different reasons there are a lot of Hungarians living outside our county. We tried to detect our students' feelings about them, The presentation includes the result of a public opinion test carried among the students of our school Cultural diversity in Portugal educational system can be shown by social class, ethnicity, race, religion, nationality, special needs or age. |
